The highly innovative Subway App iShoogle has been recognised yet again; this time at the Digital Awards Northern Ireland (DANI), held in 2013 City of Culture Derry recently.
iShoogle scooped silver within a category which looked at innovation and best user engagement, proving that those in the know highly regard SPT’s pioneering mobile software, which is available – free – for both Android and iPhone.
SPT Chief Executive Gordon Maclennan said:
“I’m delighted that the app continues to receive recognition for its innovative, intuitive functions a year on after being launched. iShoogle was a first step in combining social media and mobile technology which is incredibly popular with our passengers and we’re hoping to develop that further in 2014.”
More than just a travel information tool for Glasgow Subway users, unique features like the ‘Shoogle Guide’ offer location-based information relevant to areas surrounding all stations – a detail that ticked the customer engagement box at this year’s DANIs.
Belfast-based digital experts Origin Partners developed iShoogle in partnership with SPT and was made available on the App Store and Google Play in September 2012. Just three week’s after launching, the app saw a staggering 3000 downloads, with total downloads to date standing in the region of 12,000.
Work to develop the second version of iShoogle with Origin is already underway and the new and improved app promises to offer even more intuitive features. It’s hoped that the new version will be a popular download for the influx of visitors expected in the city next summer for Glasgow 2014.
The iShoogle app has also won Silver in the Best App category at Digital Media Awards in March and Scottish Transport Award for Excellence in Travel Information and Marketing 2013.
The DANI Awards are the Northern Ireland’s premier Digital Industry Awards, celebrating excellence within the digital sector.
