George Square’s annual festive light switch on takes place today (Thursday 14th November) meaning that Christmas has officially arrived in Glasgow. To ensure as many people as possible get a spot in time for the countdown, additional Subway trains will be in operation, with a five minute service running after the normal peak hours.
Gates open at 5pm, with the switch on and fireworks kicking off at 7pm. Radio Clyde DJs George Bowie and Knoxy will be hosts for the evening and full event details can be found here.
More than 15,000 people attended last year’s event and demand for this year was at an all-time high, so advice is not to turn up unless you have tickets.
SPT Chair Jim Coleman said:
“Glasgow really does love Christmas and every year the city becomes even more festive than the previous one. The atmosphere is fantastic!
“The Subway is the quickest and easiest way to get to the heart of the city and I’m delighted that SPT is helping as many people as possible enjoy the Christmas season – that’s true festive spirit for you!”
Subway Sunday hours will also be extended until 9pm on 24 November and 1, 8, 15 and 22 December, making it even easier to eat, shop and be merry in the run up to the holidays.
