Work to get ready for modernisation of Kelvinbridge station commences

Subway passengers travelling through Kelvinbridge station will notice that the works announced last month have now started.

Some of the changes that customers may notice are hoardings being put in place at the lower concourse level, which will narrow the passage to the platform slightly. This is to allow workmen to carry out maintenance work to walls. Tiles will also be lifted from the floor and a temporary surface will be put in place and we would ask customers to take extra care when they make their way through the station.

External to the station, there has been some accommodation put in place for the construction team. To ensure that the exterior of the station continued to be well presented hoardings have been erected to enclose the construction team’s external workspace.

This work on drainage and water sealing (PDF, 98.4 kb) will continue into the Spring and hoardings will remain in place until the Autumn to enable the contractor to ensure that no further works are required ahead of modernisation.

Eric Stewart, SPT Assistant Chief Executive (Operations), said:

“We would like to thank customers for their patience as we undertake this essential planned work. We are doing our utmost to minimise disruption and ensure that our stations remain welcoming throughout construction works.

“We are also committed to keeping the exterior of our stations presentable and we will be hoarding off some space to keep the area looking clean and tidy.”
