Changing travel behaviour

This week (3 to 9 October) is National Liftshare Week and an opportunity to thank all those who take part in car share schemes, and promote it further to those thinking about joining up.

SPT promotes car sharing through SPT JourneyShare, the regional car share scheme for the west of Scotland, delivered in partnership with the UK umbrella group Liftshare.

With more than 6300 members, the scheme is supported by a number of major employers including Glasgow University, the University of the West of Scotland, Life Technologies, Hillington Business Park, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), NHS Ayrshire and Arran, Glasgow Airport, BBC Pacific Quay and seven local authorities.

Once you register with SPT JourneyShare through the website, you can seek someone to share with who is travelling a similar journey at a similar time then create your BUDi Team. Joining a BUDi Team can have benefits as many organisations such as NHSGGC provide preferential parking opportunities for its registered BUDI teams, by issuing parking permits for designated car sharing parking areas.

To date there are 605 registered BUDi teams on SPT JourneyShare, over the next 12 months it is forecasted that these teams will:

  • Save 1254.8 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions, all of which helps to protect the environment.
  • Save £922,752 in cash by car sharing rather than driving each day individually.
  • Save 3,810,832 in mileage.

During the week, Liftshare is offering a prize draw, registered members could win £250 by sending a message to another member through Liftshare during the week find out more at:
