Go on a Summer adventure with Glasgow Subway


As the Summer holidays approach let the Subway take you on an adventure.

With a Smartcard you can travel the entire Subway network, jumping on and off as much as you like sampling the sights of the city as you go. If you’re taking the kids as well, children under five can travel for free whilst those under 16 travel all day for £1.35* with a Smartcard. And with staff on hand to assist you with your pram and any other needs, we take the stress away letting you enjoy your family day out!

With 15 stops located around the centre, taking just 12 minutes to cross the city, it’s easy to visit the sights and if you’re not familiar with Glasgow we’ve pulled together some highlights all easy to access via the Subway. Better still most are FREE or discounted with your Subway Smartcard!

Buchanan Street

From Buchanan Street, take a stroll along the side of George Square to Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art, Scotland’s most visited modern art gallery.

Here you’ll find Saturday Art Club which has been inspiring families for 14 years. Come along to these fun and creative workshops up in the roof top studio. Take inspiration from the artworks on display while trying out different materials and techniques. Drawing, painting, sculptures, printing, collage, what will you be making?

Recommended for children 3 – 12 years.

Take the Outer Circle to Bridge Street (two stops approx. 4 mins journey time)

Tramway’s Summer programme is jam packed this year! Each Sunday between 2 and 4pm throughout July they have Creative drop – ins for all ages.

Tryout is a drop-in space for exploring creative activities for all ages, specially designed around thier summer exhibitions.

The first on 9th July is inspired by the colourful figurative work of American artist Tschabalala Self. Work with paints and fabrics to create portraits.

With each session completely different it’s sure to be a hit with all ages and better still they are all free.


Take the Outer Circle to Shields Road (two stops approx. 4 mins journey time)

Hop off at Shields Road and directly across the road you’ll find Scotland Street School, it tells the story of 100 years of education in Scotland, from the late 19th century to the late 20th century.

Take the Outer Circle to Kinning Park (one stop approx. 2 mins journey time)

Kinning Park is one Subway stop that certainly hosts loads of fun activities for kids and adults alike and Laser Quest is amongst these!

Laser Quest is the number 1 brand of Laser tag boasting Glasgow’s largest multi level game arena. Whilst the kids are having a ball mums and dads can relax in the café area or even join in the fun at the space themed arcade. Don’t forget two games for just £7 with your Smartcard and The Upper Circle!

Take the Outer Circle to Partick (four stops approx. 8 mins journey time)

Work your way round to Partick to enjoy a visit to a firm family favourite, the Riverside Museum at Glasgow Harbour which is only a short walk from Partick Subway. Here you’ll find more than 3000 objects on display including an original Subway carriage from 120 years ago!

On 15th and 16th April from 1.30 have some fun making and decorating your own carousel with Easter bunnies and chicks!

Take the Outer Circle to Kelvinhall (one stop approx. 2 mins journey time)

From Kelvinhall, it’s only a short walk up to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

One of Scotland’s most popular free-to-enter visitor attractions, Kelvingrove is the most visited museum in the United Kingdom outside London.

Fitting nicely with our superhero theme Frank Quitely: The Art of Comics brings all your favourite superheroes together in a fantastic exhibition. You can marvel at the displays, swoop into your own superhero costume or be amazed at the artworks you’ll discover!

Take the Outer Circle to St Enoch (six stops approx. 12 mins journey time)

Tummies will definitely be rumbling now so stop off for a bite to eat at Chippy Doon the Lane. Since opening in 2007 they offer a fresh and up-market twist on the old school fish and chips we all know and love; ranging from traditional classics such as Cod and Haddock to more contemporary choices such as Monkfish Tail and Coley.
