We’re counting down the sleeps until the big day arrives but in the meantime we’re here to help you get around the city this Christmas. With plenty of things to see and do we’ve picked a few highlights just for you.

Subway’s Festive timetable

From Sunday 19 November the Subway will open later, with Sunday opening hours extended to 2030 until 17 December.


Christmas Lights Switch-on

The Christmas Lights Switch On event is on Sunday 19 November and takes place in George Square. Entry by ticket only.

Christmas Markets

Christmas isn’t Christmas without a visit to the traditional market for a gastronomic treat, a warming glass of festive cheer or a unique festive gift.

This year the Christmas Markets return to St Enoch Square and George Square offering delicious delights and hand crafted gifts beneath the twinkling Christmas lights alongside live entertainment, fairground rides and festive surprises.

St Enoch Square Christmas market opens 9 November and George Square Christmas market opens 25 November.

Glasgow Style Mile Carnival

The Style Mile Christmas Carnival will bring music, dance and spectacle to the heart of Glasgow.

The magical procession of festive characters will come to life as they sprinkle their magic dust over the city centre.

Sunday 26 November will be an afternoon of amazing performance, thrilling costumes and enchanting acts. It is a definite date for your festive calendar. Carnival starts at 2.30pm leaving from St Enoch Square and finishing at 3.30pm at George Square.

Blessing of the Crib

The traditional Blessing of the Crib takes place in George Square beneath the Christmas lights to a chorus of singers with the Lord Provost of Glasgow. This event is free and everyone is welcome to attend.

Baby’s First Christmas

This ever popular traditional event sees 1000 of Glasgow’s new-borns invited to a Baby’s First Christmas celebration, a truly magical occasion.

Santa Dash

Run the fun, festive 5K! The Santa Dash is a Christmas spectacle you won’t want to miss as the city centre transforms in to a sea of Santa suits, all running for charity.​ Ready, set, go ho ho!

The Kings Theatre Pantomime

He’s behind you! It isn’t quite Christmas until you’ve been to see one of Glasgow’s many fun, family pantomimes and Christmas shows. Why not head to the King’s Theatre for Sleeping Beauty (2 Dec – 7 Jan), and receive £5 off with your Subway Smartcard as part of The Upper Circle.
