Guidance for operators on changes to bus registration process

New legislation governing the way in which local bus services are registered in Scotland came into effect on 31 January 2016 with the introduction of the Public Service Vehicles (Registration of Local Services) Amendment Regulations 2015.

While the overall time scale for the submission of registration applications will remain at 70 days, the pre-registration period within that has increased from 14 to 28 days. The Scottish Government intends that the bus operator and SPT use this extended period for meaningful early dialogue about the proposed service changes and to address any likely problems which may arise. SPT fully supports the new process and we are confident that bus operators will demonstrate a similar willingness to make it work for the benefit of the passenger.
