Park and Ride

Avoid city centre congestion and leave your car at one of the three car parks at SPT Subway stations.

  • What is Park and Ride?
  • Car parking facilities are provided at the following Subway stations:

    • Bridge Street
    • Kelvinbridge
    • Shields Road

    These facilities allow daytime, off-street parking for drivers travelling on the Subway.

    All day parking can be purchased for use with all ticket types except single tickets. You can pay for your parking when you purchase your ticket.

    Holders of multi-journey and season tickets can purchase Park and Ride each day on presentation of a ticket within its period of validity, provided the ticket has been used that day.

    All car parks are equipped with closed-circuit TV surveillance.

    Station with Park and Ride facility Number of Parking spaces

  • Shields Road
  • Who can use Shields Road car park?

    Shields Road car park can be used for Park and Ride by people who intend travelling on the Subway, or by people who wish to use the car park only. The Subway journey into the city centre takes only five minutes.

    What facilities are available?

    • 800 parking spaces in the multi-storey building and surface level car park;
    • Dedicated disabled and parent and child spaces;
    • Lift to the upper floors;
    • Full CCTV coverage;
    • Bright lighting in all areas;
    • Cycle racks;
    • Coffee and sandwich bar.

    What are the car park opening hours?

    Parking is available at Shields Road car park Monday to Saturday from 06:30 until 23:40.

    On Sundays, all areas of the car park are open between 10:00 and 18:05.

    Please note that the car park is secured out of operating hours.

    How secure is the car park?

    The car park is covered by CCTV. Help points are provided at the entry and exit barriers and at ticket machines. Barriers can be remotely operated and CCTV is monitored via the Subway station booking office as well as from the attendant's office. CCTV is also monitored by the Subway's Control.

    A dedicated car park attendant will be on duty at the following times:

    • 07:30 to 19:30 weekdays;
    • 09:00 to 19:30 Saturdays;
    • 11:30 to 16:30 Sundays.

    When the attendant is not on duty, station staff and security staff will be available to deal with any problems you may have and will carry out frequent security and customer care patrols.

    Fire alarm systems are linked to the Subway's Control and Subway station booking office.

    In April 2007, Shields Road car park was presented with the Park Mark Safer Parking Award by Strathclyde Police. A detailed risk assessment showed the car park demonstrated it has measures in place to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. It provides a safe environment for the public and their vehicles and is the first SPT car park at a Subway station to receive the Park Mark accreditation.

    How do I get to the car park?

    To find the car park, when travelling along Scotland Street from the west, take the first left hand turn into the car park.

    When travelling from the East, pass the exit barriers after the junction with Carnoustie Street and take the next right hand turn into the car park.
