£31 million of subsidised local bus contracts awarded

Written by SPT 13/05/2019

SPT’s operations committee has awarded more £31million worth of subsidised local bus contracts since the start of 2019.

At a recent operations committee 23 local bus service contracts worth a total contract value of more than £16 million were awarded.

This latest investment is in addition to the £15 million worth of contracts that SPT announced in January this year.

Chair of SPT Operations Committee David Wilson said:

“This substantial £31 million plus investment clearly demonstrates SPT’s commitment to ensuring socially necessary transport in some of our most vulnerable communities.

“It is essential that communities across our region remain connected so that we all have the opportunity to engage with services whether for work and leisure across the West of Scotland.  These services are often a lifeline for many at weekends and evenings.”

These latest contracts awarded affect East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, and West Dunbartonshire council areas.

SPT currently subsidises 152 local bus services, helping to connect communities not served by the commercial market.
